ABOUT
Located near the Dishman Hills Park and Natural Area, in South Spokane Valley, Torra Tea provides a distinctly elegant dining environment with echos of nature with its deep tones and art work, stunning chandeliers and white linen table service for in-house dining. Owner Kathryn Soady chose the name "Torra", which is Scottish Gaelic meaning "from the castle", to reflect what she wants each guest to experience. The menu gives a distinct nod to Scotland with a mix of other UK inspired dishes. The Cullen Skink soup (smoked haddock white chowder), savory pies and full 3-tiered tea service are must-try!
Torra Tea is where you can find tradition with the unexpected. Don't let the name distract you from their expansive offering of unique and delicious craft cocktails, entrees, and special menu offerings. Expect to find your always-available-favorites and anticipate frequent fun menu add-ons! The menu prominently features tea and whiskey/whisky, infusing them in to beverages, baking, and cooking. Whether it is tea-for-2, a casual lunch, business dinner, or a celebration event, Torra Tea is a great place for celebrating togetherness!

What do you do when you find yourself at the intersection of opportunity and change? Owner Kathryn Soady decided to pivot from her long-established career as a Physical Therapist and Operations Leader to transform her passion for food and culture from a hobby into a full-time commitment by creating Torra Tea. Initially a loose retirement transition concept, Kathryn began exploring ideas that would leverage her talents for hosting events and cooking. This led to the evolution of the tea-house idea.
Driven by an innate curiosity for cultural experiences, Kathryn researched tea traditions from various cultures, including Scotland, which holds special ethnic heritage for both her and her husband, Gregg. This opened the door to enrich her tea house concept into something truly unique. She decided to offer not only a variety of teas but also whisky—the national drink of Scotland, originating from the Gaelic phrase "uisge beatha," which translates to "water of life." These elements, whether enjoyed separately or infused into beverages, baking, or cooking, became the heart of Torra Tea's offerings.
The famed savory pies of Scotland also added a heartier option to the menu alongside tea sandwiches, scones, and mini-desserts. Kathryn collaborated with Chef Chad Michelbook, a longtime Spokane Area Culinary Professional, to select key menu items, translating recipes from home cooking to commercial kitchen production, and refining the researched recipes to the final presentation she wanted to share with guests.
Torra Tea expands the expression of Kathryn's deep ties to family and community. Kathryn and Gregg have lived in Spokane Valley for over 20 years, a wonderful place for raising their two daughters and now enjoying their grandchildren and grand-dogs. With the dedicated help and love help of family and friends, Kathryn's vision of a place where everyone can share in the joy of food and connection became a reality with Torra Tea.
