ABOUT Torra
Located near Dishman Hills Conservancy in South Spokane Valley, Torra offers an elegant, nature-inspired dining experience—deep, earthy tones, curated artwork, sparkling chandeliers, and crisp white-linen table service for in-house dining.
Owner Kathryn Soady chose the name Torra—Scottish Gaelic for “from the castle”—to reflect what she hopes every guest feels: welcomed, cared for, and a little transported. Originally known as Torra Tea, Torra has grown into a destination for tea, cocktails, and elevated dining inspired by Scotland and the UK. The menu tips its hat to Scotland with a mix of UK-inspired favorites. Don’t miss the Cullen Skink (a smoked haddock chowder), savory pies, and the signature three-tier tea service.
Torra is where tradition meets the unexpected. Alongside tea service, you’ll find an expansive lineup of craft cocktails, entrées, and rotating specials—plus familiar favorites that are always available. Tea and whisky/whiskey show up throughout the menu, infused into beverages, baking, and even savory dishes. Whether you’re stopping in for tea-for-two, a casual lunch, a business dinner, or a celebration, Torra is built for togetherness.

Kathryn’s path to opening Torra started with a big pivot. After a long career as a physical therapist and operations leader, she turned a lifelong passion for food, hospitality, and culture into a full-time calling. What began as a “someday” retirement idea quickly evolved into a tea-house concept with real heart and purpose.
Driven by curiosity and a love of cultural traditions, Kathryn explored tea rituals from around the world—especially Scotland, a meaningful heritage for both her and her husband, Gregg. That research helped shape Torra into something distinct: a place that celebrates tea and also honors Scotland’s national spirit, whisky—derived from the Gaelic uisge beatha, meaning “water of life.” Whether enjoyed on their own or woven into the menu, these elements became central to the Torra experience.
To bring the menu to life, Kathryn collaborated with Chef Chad Michelbook, a longtime Spokane-area culinary professional, to develop key dishes—translating home recipes into commercial kitchen production and refining each item into the final presentation she wanted to share with guests. Scotland’s beloved savory pies added a hearty counterpoint to tea sandwiches, scones, and bite-sized desserts.
At its heart, Torra is an expression of family and community. Kathryn and Gregg have called Spokane Valley home for more than 20 years, where they raised their two daughters and now enjoy their grandchildren (and grand-dogs). With the love and support of family and friends, Kathryn’s vision became a reality: a place where people can gather, slow down, and connect over great food and drink.
